Mango wood is a by-product of fruit growing. The mango tree is only harvested once it has stopped bearing, after which the wood gets a second life as furniture. So you choose consciously and sustainably, without compromising on quality. As a hardwood, mango is strong, hard-wearing and well able to cope with daily use. Which size TV unit suits your television?
A simple rule of thumb: choose a TV unit that is at least as wide as your television, and preferably 20 to 40 cm wider. That way the picture looks visually balanced and you have room for a soundbar or decoration. For a 55 inch TV a unit of 150 to 180 cm works well, for 65 inch choose 180 to 220 cm. Ideally the centre of the screen sits at eye level from the sofa, so you watch in a relaxed position.
Freestanding or wall-hung TV unit?
A freestanding TV unit looks robust and often offers more storage. A wall-hung TV unit is fixed to the wall and leaves the floor clear, which gives a light, spacious impression and makes vacuuming easier. We carry both versions in mango wood. Many of our mango wood TV units have cable openings at the back, so cables are tidied neatly away. Mango is versatile and has a lively grain, ideal for anyone after a warm piece with character. Teak TV units are even more robust and naturally oil-rich, ideal if you want a timeless, slightly more rugged piece. Acacia resembles mango but often has a more irregular figure. Mango wood is easy to look after. Dust regularly with a dry or slightly damp cloth and mop up spills straight away. Treat the piece once or twice a year with furniture oil or wax to feed the wood and deepen the colour. Do not place the unit in direct, strong sunlight and keep it away from a radiator, so the wood does not dry out.
