Side Tables

A good side table is small in size but big in use. Put in exactly the right spot it takes your drink, a reading lamp or the remote control, and a corner of your living room is instantly finished. At Mokana Meubelen in Enschede you will find dozens of side tables available from stock: solid wood models in suar wood and mango, marble versions and industrial tables with a steel base.

What is a side table and which material suits you

A side table is a compact, decorative table you place next to a chair, armchair or sofa. With us you can choose from several materials, each with its own character. Solid suar wood, also known as raintree, gives a dramatic marbling thanks to the colour contrast between heartwood and sapwood and suits a rugged, natural scheme. Mango is sleeker and more even in tone. Marble brings class and coolness to a room, and steel with a wooden or marble top feels at home in industrial and modern interiors.

Sizing advice: height and diameter

Our side tables come in round, square and organic shapes, with a diameter of usually 30 to 60 cm. The height is mostly between 40 and 55 cm, so the table sits level with or just below the armrest of your sofa or armchair. For a reading corner with an armchair a height of around 50 cm works well. Next to a low lounge sofa you would go for around 40 cm. If space is tight, a nest of 2 or 3 tables is ideal.

Specification: shape, set or single table

A single side table is perfect as a place for a lamp or a plant in a corner. A nest of two or three tables slides together and pulls apart when you need more surface, handy when you have guests or in a small living room. Round models create a soft, welcoming feel, while square tables look calmer and sleeker. Organic tops, often in suar wood, turn the table into an eye-catcher in its own right.

Caring for your side table

Wooden side tables stay attractive with simple care. Dust regularly with a dry or slightly damp cloth and mop up spills straight away, so no rings can form. Top up a wooden surface periodically with furniture oil to keep the colour deep and warm. Marble is sensitive to acids, so wipe away stains from citrus or wine immediately. A steel base you keep clean with a dry cloth.

Why buy a side table at Mokana

In our home store at Hogelandsingel 49 in Enschede you can see and feel the materials before you choose, from the marbling of suar wood to the weight of a marble top. We are easy to reach for customers in Twente and the German border region, and we deliver throughout the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Smaller side tables go by parcel, larger models travel with our own delivery service. You can pay in advance or on receipt, and paying in instalments is possible.

What else works with a side table

A side table combines seamlessly with a coffee table, a console table and an armchair. For a complete reading corner, bring an armchair, a side table and a floor lamp together. Choose materials and tones that complement each other and calm follows: a wooden side table beside a wooden coffee table, or a marble accent next to sleek steel. That way a stand-alone table becomes a natural part of your interior.

Frequently asked questions

How high should a side table be?

A side table sits best level with or just below the armrest of your sofa or armchair, usually 40 to 55 cm high. For a reading corner with an armchair around 50 cm works, next to a low lounge sofa around 40 cm.

What is the difference between a side table and a coffee table?

A side table is small, around 30 to 60 cm across, and intended for one person beside a chair or sofa. A coffee table stands centrally in front of the sofa, is much larger and is meant for several people at once.

Do you have nests of side tables?

Yes, we carry nests of 2 or 3 side tables that slide together. That is practical in a small room, and when you need more surface you simply pull them apart.

Which wood has the most beautiful marbling?

Suar wood, also known as raintree, has the most spectacular marbling thanks to the colour contrast between heartwood and sapwood. Mango is a little sleeker and more even in tone.

Can a side table also serve as a bedside table?

Certainly, a side table 45 to 55 cm high works well beside the bed. If you want extra storage, we also have bedside tables with drawers.
