Painting or print: which to choose

Both original paintings and art prints have their charm. An original is unique and has texture and depth in the paint. A print is more accessible and offers a wider range of sizes and motifs, so you can fill a large wall or build a series more easily. You will find both in our range, in styles that suit a warm as well as a sleek interior.

Which style suits your interior

The style of your wall art sets the mood. Abstract work, black and white photography and graphic pieces in neutral colours sit well in a modern or minimalist interior. Nature photography and figurative work bring warmth and a story. Pick a dominant colour from your room and let it return in the work, and everything falls into place calmly.

Hanging at the right height

Hang the centre of the work at eye level, around 150 to 160 cm. If you place a painting above a piece of furniture, leave 15 to 25 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom edge of the work, so the two read as a pair. Rest larger works against the wall or on the floor first to see how they look before you start drilling.

Building a gallery wall

For a gallery wall, work with an odd number of pieces and vary the sizes and frames for a lively whole. Lay the composition out on the floor first, or cut paper templates to actual size and tape them to the wall. That way you settle the spacing and the balance before a single hole goes into the wall.

Combining with your furniture and decoration

Wall art rarely stands alone. Match the frame or the colours to your sofa, sideboard or home accessories, so the wall becomes part of the bigger picture. A quiet piece above a sideboard makes a lovely vignette together with a lamp and some ceramics. And do dare to choose one large statement piece above the sofa as an eye-catcher.
