About HE Design

HE Design stands for considered furniture design from the Netherlands, with great attention to material and finish. The brand makes dining chairs, armchairs, tables and matching sideboards in its own workshop. This is deliberately not mass production: each piece of furniture is individually designed and thoroughly tested before it leaves the door. This is how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design come together.

Materials and colours

HE Design works with natural materials such as solid wood, metal and leather. That combination gives the furniture an honest, warm appearance that ages well. Wood brings texture and warmth, metal provides a sleek contrast and leather adds character and comfort. Many models are available in a wide range of leather types, fabrics and colours, so you can match the chair or armchair to your own interior.

Configure your own HE Design chair

For 41 HE Design models you can configure the specification yourself on the product page: with or without armrest, the base, the colour of that base and the fabric or leather. The price updates with every choice, so you can see immediately what a heavier leather type, a swivel base or castors cost. Whatever you configure goes into production in Tilburg after you place your order.

HE Design leg types

With these chairs the leg determines more than just the look. The specification chart lists 165 bases in 15 colours, from black coated, anthracite and cement grey to stainless steel, bronze metallic and white. For each model part of these is available; the configurator shows you which. The families at a glance:

• Sledge base (Sledge base, Sledge leg, Fiore sledge): a continuous tube instead of separate legs, 6 versions. It glides smoothly across a hard floor and does not sink into a high-pile rug.
• Spider base: 6 versions, including one on castors. A central base with arms, so there is no leg in the corner where your feet go.
• Swivel base: with 45 bases the largest family, with names such as Elips, Gaia, Rana, Cpk, Antares, Elara, Luton, Pappel and Siano. The chair turns as you draw it up and get up, which helps at a table set tight against the wall. 33 bases are a memory version: after you get up it returns to its original position by itself, so the chairs stay squarely at the table.
• Legs with castors: 17 bases roll, including the Round straight leg on castors, the Spider base on castors and various frames. Practical at a long table and on carpet.
• Wooden leg: 4 versions (Wooden leg round, Wooden leg round from centre, Square wooden leg, Wooden leg round on corner). The only family with no visible metal.
• Frame leg: 23 bases, from Frame K and Frame L to Frame U, Frame M, Frame TF and Frame Zenon. A continuous metal frame that gives the chair a sleek, industrial line.
• Straight leg: four separate legs, round or square, also as Twist round and Twist square. In addition, the chart features individual designs with their own name, such as Spider, Viper, Zipper and the Angled leg.

For 104 of the 165 bases felt glides are available. On a wooden or poured floor that is far from an unnecessary luxury.

HE Design leather types and fabric groups

HE Design upholsters in 84 fabrics and leather types, together good for more than 800 colours. They are arranged in groups, and that group determines the price. The from-price on a product page is always the cheapest group, in the cheapest version and with the most affordable base. Every step up is immediately reflected in the amount.

• Group 1: the leather types Toledo (52 colours), Alain, Celine, Claire and Louis.
• Group 2: Granada (17 colours), Kenia (11), Massief (23), Mombassa, Rancho, Rebound and Vintage.
• Group 3: Elegance, Mirage and Prestige (17 colours), the heaviest leather types of the brand.
• Basiq leather: Granada Basiq and Rancho Basiq, in a fixed colour selection, belonging to the affordable Basiq line.

The fabrics start with Fabric A featuring Adore, Bull, Lodge and Venga. Fabric B is a step more expensive, with among others Be Lovely, Cosmo, Cayenne, Feel Cozy, Feel Relaxed and Glory. Group 4 is the most expensive and contains the upholstery fabrics from Warwick, Ploeg, JAB, Aristide and Splendido. If you have already found a fabric yourself, you can send it in and have it applied.

Bar stools, stools, dining benches and recliner armchairs

Online, HE Design is known above all as a dining chair, while the specification chart is much broader. It includes 27 bar stool legs (Elips bar stool, Uniq bar stool, Round and Square leg bar stool, Round leg bar bench) and 3 stool legs (Antares swivel base, Elara swivel base and Sledge base in the stool version). Bar stools and stools are therefore available in the same fabrics and leather types as the chairs; they are simply not yet in the webshop. Ask about them in the showroom or via contact.

What you can configure directly:

• Dining benches: Bench Pepe straight from 1,074 euros, Bench Grissa from 1,142 euros and the oval Pumba, Simba and Manon. Handy at a table against the wall, as a bench needs less walking space than separate chairs.
• Recliner armchairs: the Jada, from 2,554 euros, with 3 or 4 motors.
• Armchairs: 13 models, from 973 euros for the Donna.

For which interior

HE Design suits those who love honest materials and visible craftsmanship. The designs blend with almost any style, provided you carry one or two core materials through consistently, for example the wood or the leather. In a warm, natural interior the pieces feel instantly at home, while a sleek metal base also works within a more modern whole.

Frequently asked questions about HE Design

Where are HE Design furniture pieces made?

HE Design designs and produces in its own workshop in Tilburg. The furniture is hand-built and tested piece by piece, so it is craft work and not mass production.

Can I choose the fabric, leather and colour myself?

With many models, yes. HE Design is available in a wide range of leather types, fabrics and colours, so you can match the chair or armchair to your interior.

Can I view HE Design in person?

Yes. In our showroom in Enschede, HE Design models are on display to view, feel and try out.

Does HE Design combine with other brands?

Certainly. The honest materials combine well with other brands, as long as you keep one or two core materials consistent.

What does an HE Design dining chair cost?

The most affordable models come from the Basiq line: the Actu and the Looq start at 257 euros, in fabric group Basiq fabric A, without armrest and with the standard base. Models outside that line start at around 348 euros. If you choose leather, a swivel base or castors, the amount rises and you see that immediately in the configurator. An armchair starts at 973 euros, a dining bench at 1,074 euros.

What is the delivery time for HE Design?

Every piece of furniture only goes into production in Tilburg after you place your order. Allow around 12 weeks until it arrives in Enschede. After that we plan the delivery moment together with our own delivery service.

Which leg types does HE Design have?

There are 165 bases in 15 colours, spread across sledge bases, spider bases, swivel bases, frame legs, wooden legs and straight legs. 45 of these are a swivel base, 33 have a memory return, 17 have castors and for 104 felt glides are available. For each model part is available; the configurator shows exactly what is possible for your chair.

Which fabrics and leather types can I choose with HE Design?

84 fabrics and leather types, together more than 800 colours. The leather ranges from Toledo, Alain, Celine, Claire and Louis in group 1, via Granada, Kenia, Massief, Mombassa, Rancho, Rebound and Vintage in group 2, to Elegance, Mirage and Prestige in group 3. The fabrics go from Fabric A (Adore, Bull, Lodge, Venga) via Fabric B to group 4 with Warwick, Ploeg, JAB and Aristide. The group determines the price, and the cheapest group is the from-price.

How much warranty comes with HE Design?

Mokana provides at least 2 years full warranty on all products and works with the CBW-recognised conditions for home stores. Please note: a chair you configure yourself is made to measure, so the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to it. Your rights in the event of damage, a defect or an incorrect delivery of course remain fully in place.
