What is a buffet cabinet

A buffet cabinet consists of a low, closed base with a display or shelved section above it. Below, behind doors, you keep things like crockery or linen. Above, on open shelves or behind glass, you place decoration or attractive glassware. This split between low and high makes the buffet cabinet compact and stylish at once: a full storage piece that still has something to show.

Style and material

Classic buffet cabinets in solid mango or teak with panelled doors and wooden knobs suit a country or hotel chic interior. Modern versions with glass, steel or sleek handles fit contemporary styles. Sizing advice

Buffet cabinets are usually 180 to 220 cm high and 100 to 200 cm wide. The base is generally up to around 90 cm high, with the upper section adding another 90 to 130 cm on top. Measure the available wall space in advance and pay attention to the height as well, certainly under a sloping ceiling or beside a window. That way you know for sure the cabinet fits and the upper section is shown off properly.

Lighting and display

Many buffet cabinets have LED lighting in the upper section, which shows crockery or decoration off beautifully. That turns the display case into an atmospheric accent in the room in the evening.
