What are wooden animals and how are they made?

Our wooden animals are hand-carved in Indonesia from solid blocks of wood. Because every piece is worked by hand, no two are the same: each animal has its own character thanks to the natural grain and the shape of the block it was carved from. That makes a wooden animal a genuinely unique decorative object, with the warm look of solid wood.

Which timbers are there?

The animals come in suar wood (raintree), teak and mango. Suar wood is known for its wide, lively grain and warm tones, teak is oil-rich and timeless, and mango has a versatile, playful figure. Which timber an animal is made from varies by model. In our showroom you can see and feel the differences between the timbers, so you choose a piece that suits the rest of your interior.

Which size suits your room?

Wooden animals come in a wide range of sizes, from compact table pieces of 10 to 20 cm to large floor statements of 60 to 100 cm. A small animal shows well on a sideboard, bookcase or windowsill, while a large piece can stand as a free-standing focal point on the floor. Combine several sizes for a playful whole, or deliberately choose a single statement piece.

How do you place and combine wooden animals?

A wooden animal is at its best when you give it a considered place: alone as a focal point, or together with other decoration. Group decoration preferably in odd numbers and vary the height for a natural, well kept look. Against a calm background the shape and grain of the wood stand out best. That turns a wooden animal into a striking accent in your living room, hallway or study.

How do you care for a wooden animal?

Wipe the animal regularly with a dry cloth to remove dust. Oiling the wood once a year keeps the colour deep and well kept, and keeps the grain clearly visible. Do not place solid wood in prolonged direct sunlight and keep it away from strong heat sources, so the colour stays even and the wood does not dry out.
