Walking lion in solid teak

This teak lion in full stride is more than a decorative piece: it is a work of craftsmanship. The sculpture is built up from dozens of carefully selected pieces of solid teak, shaped and joined by hand by experienced woodcarvers on Java, Indonesia. The individual pieces of wood follow the anatomy of the animal: long, flowing pieces for the muscular flanks, twisted elements for the flowing mane and sturdy blocks for the powerful legs. The result is a lion that radiates strength, movement and vitality.

With a height of approximately 180 cm and a depth of approximately 200 cm, this sculpture is a true showstopper. The walking pose gives the piece a dynamic character rarely seen in woodcarving: as if the lion could come to life at any moment.

Artisan woodcarving from Indonesia

The carving of this lion is a craft passed down from generation to generation on Java. The artist selects each piece of teak for its form, grain and strength, and builds the sculpture up layer by layer. The natural forms and cracks of the wood are not concealed but rather put to use: they give the mane texture, the skin roughness and the whole an organic, living character. The production process takes weeks to months, depending on the size and level of detail.

This sculpture is made by World of Brosi, specialist in unique furniture and decoration in teak and suar wood. World of Brosi works directly with artisans in Indonesia and is known for pieces with character: robust, authentic and each one unique. At Mokana we are an official Sventerior dealer.
