Mirror: shape and frame

The shape sets the mood. Round and organic mirrors look soft and modern, square and rectangular models are calmer and more classic. For the frame you can choose from wood, brass, brushed gold, black steel and rattan. For a sleek, modern look choose a thin black frame. If you want to add warmth, brass or wood work well with a natural interior. Rattan gives a light, botanical feel. There are also models with tinted, smoked glass, which gives a softer reflection and is popular in modern interiors.

Which size do I choose and where do I hang it

Match the size to the spot. For the hallway 60 to 80 cm works nicely, in the living room 100 to 150 cm, and for a real statement 150 to 200 cm. For placement there are a few proven spots. Directly opposite a window you catch maximum daylight and the room feels lighter and larger. Above a sideboard or console table you get a beautiful, functional combination. In the hallway a mirror comes in handy for a final check before you head out.

Hanging: the right fixing

Choose the fixing based on the weight of the mirror and the type of wall. For light mirrors up to around 5 kg, plasterboard plugs are enough. For a heavier mirror use a cavity wall anchor, or hang it on a wooden batten that spreads the weight across the wall. If you are unsure about the wall or the weight, it is better to leave the hanging to a professional, certainly with the larger sizes.

Caring for glass and frame

Keep a mirror clear with a glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive products, which can damage the mirror layer and the frame. Wipe the frame with a slightly damp or dry cloth, depending on the material. That way your mirror stays crisp and clear for years.
