Organic Tables
An organic table is never the same twice. Instead of being sawn straight, the top follows the natural shape of the tree trunk: a rugged edge, an asymmetric top and visible knots or splits that give the wood its story. At Mokana Meubelen in Enschede we have dozens of organic tables available from stock, each one unique and made from solid suar wood (raintree), mango or teak.

What makes a table organic
A table top is organic when the sides follow the natural shape of the tree trunk rather than being sawn straight. Often the original bark edge is kept, or a split is filled with epoxy for a river table effect. That gives you a focal point that does not come out of a factory mould, but is genuinely unique. A live-edge table is always organic, made from a whole trunk with a natural edge; an organic table can also be assembled from several pieces of wood joined together while keeping that rugged shape.
Types of organic table at Mokana
We carry organic live-edge dining tables, suar wood live-edge tables, organic coffee tables and separate root tables, made from the root base of the tree. All models can be combined with a range of bases: a U-leg, X-leg, spider base or wooden leg. Waterfall tables, where the wood continues down the side to the floor, give an extra solid and flowing effect.
Made to measure: our speciality
With organic tables, made to measure is what we are good at. The showroom holds hundreds of raw tops for you to choose from, in lengths from 160 cm to 10 metres and in any shape you want. Our advisers will help you with the combination of shape, size and base. For a rugged top many customers choose a sleek steel base (U-leg or spider base) as a contrast; for a rustic look you combine the top with wooden legs in the same timber.
Caring for an organic table
Solid wood stays attractive with simple care. Dust the top regularly with a soft cloth and mop up spills quickly. Topping up once a year with furniture oil keeps the colour deep and warm. For extra protection we treat tables on request with a transparent, matt lacquer that prevents rings without hiding the natural look. Wood can move slightly with swings in temperature or humidity; our tables are pre-dried and fitted underneath with a system that absorbs this without visible problems.
