What is a fabric armchair and which fabric do you choose?

A fabric armchair is an upholstered standalone seat that feels softer than leather and gives more pleasant acoustics in the room. The choice mainly lies in the weave. Bouclé is cosy and inviting, ideal for a snug reading corner in taupe, cream or earthy tones. Linen suits natural, pure living and is allowed to crease lightly, which is part of the material. Velvet gives a chic, hotel-like look in deep colours such as emerald, dark blue or terracotta. Upholstered models in a sturdy fabric blend are the most family friendly and are often available in a broad colour palette.

Fixed armchair or swivel chair?

A fixed armchair is a standalone statement piece for the seating area or reading corner: no swivelling part, a fixed backrest and a solid seating feel. A swivel chair turns 360 degrees and is great in a seating area where you want to face the TV, the window or the conversation in turn. For a reading corner a model of roughly 80 to 90 cm wide works nicely, with a good backrest and armrests. Add a floor lamp and a side table next to it and the corner is complete.

A good filling with foam and springing keeps the seating comfort at level for years. Caring for fabric armchairs

Fabric armchairs stay beautiful with simple care. Vacuum the upholstery weekly with a soft brush. Deal with stains straight away: blot them dry and, if needed, use a damp cloth with mild soap instead of rubbing. For premium fabrics such as velvet, periodic professional cleaning is recommended. That way you extend the service life and keep the colour deep.
