What is a hall cabinet and which material

A hall cabinet is a narrow storage piece designed specially for the hall or corridor. Because space there is often limited, these cabinets are shallower than ordinary cabinets, usually between 30 and 45 cm, so they do not obstruct the passage. At Mokana you can choose mainly natural materials. Solid mango is warm and lively in pattern, reclaimed teak brings character and a weathered look. For anyone who prefers a more rugged feel, there are also industrial models with metal. Every piece of wood is unique, so no two hall cabinets are exactly the same.

Sizing advice for the hall

The right depth determines whether a hall cabinet works well. In a narrow hall, choose a model 30 to 35 cm deep, so you can still walk past it easily. If you have a wider corridor, you can go up to 45 cm for more storage. We would advise against shallower than 30 cm: the cabinet then becomes too shallow to fit coats in properly. Always measure the clear passage space before you choose, and allow for a door that swings open or a radiator in the corridor.

Layout and version

A good hall cabinet keeps everything within easy reach. Coats hang on hooks or in a shallow cabinet, shoes get a place on a shelf and keys and post live in a drawer or open compartment. Also think about room for handbags, umbrellas or parcels that have just arrived. Some models have a bench or seat cushion on the top or side, handy for sitting down while you put your shoes on and off. Caring for solid wood

Solid mango and reclaimed teak ask for little maintenance, but a little attention keeps them beautiful. Dust the cabinet regularly with a dry or slightly damp cloth and deal with stains straight away before they soak in. Avoid harsh cleaning products. If you want to keep the warm colour of the wood deep, you can treat the piece now and then with a suitable wood oil. That way your hall cabinet remains the reliable first impression of your home for years.
