Live Edge Dining Tables
A tree trunk dining table brings nature into your living room. At Mokana Meubelen in Enschede you will find a wide collection of tree trunk tables in two main woods: tropical suar wood (also known as raintree) and Asian mango wood. Every table is unique thanks to the natural wood markings, the live edges and the grown shape of the tree. No two tables are exactly the same, and that is what makes a tree trunk table so special.

Suar wood or mango wood: the difference
Suar wood is a tropical hardwood from Indonesia, also known as raintree or Albizia saman. It stands out for its dramatic marbling, caused by the colour contrast between heartwood and sapwood. It is heavy and very stable, and the well-known waterfall top is characteristic of it. Mango wood is warm brown with a live edge, more even in colour and sleeker in structure, and looks beautiful in modern interiors. Both woods are hard-wearing and last for generations in normal use. If you want something more irregular, take a look at a root table, made from the root base and a genuine eye-catcher.
Types of top: waterfall, straight, round and root
The top determines the character. A waterfall top, also called a continuous top, falls away on both sides and is made from a single continuous piece of wood: the purest form of woodworking, spectacular in profile. A straight top has a cleanly sawn edge or keeps the natural bark edge, which looks great in modern and country interiors. We also stock round tops, uniquely cut round from the trunk, and the dramatic root table.
Bases: from U-shaped legs to solid wood
The right base determines the look. We stock U-shaped legs, X-shaped legs, spider bases, V-shaped legs, Crazy Legs and solid wooden legs. All steel bases are produced locally in the Netherlands and can be powder-coated in any colour, so you can match the base exactly to your interior. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use. At Mokana we also make tree trunk tables to measure: from a compact 160 cm to boardroom-sized tables 10 metres long. Visit the showroom in Enschede to select tops on the spot. Our advisers will help you choose the top thickness, shape and base.
Caring for a tree trunk table
Tree trunk tables need minimal care. Dust the table regularly and treat the top roughly once a year with a natural furniture oil. For extra protection, a Skylt lacquer is available on request. Solid wood can move slightly with temperature fluctuations or low humidity. That is why we fit our tables with a built-in system underneath that absorbs this. Ideally do not place the table right next to an underfloor heating outlet or an open fire.

What goes with a tree trunk dining table
With a tree trunk dining table, dining chairs with armrests come into their own particularly well. Leather dining chairs or tough industrial chairs are a perfect match for the robust wood too. For a homely feel, combine the table with a dining bench along one of the long sides, creating a warm, inviting dining area.
