The wood: suar wood from Indonesia

This table is made from solid suar wood (Albizia saman), a tropical hardwood also known in Indonesia as monkeypod or raintree. Suar trees grow up to 40 metres tall and develop broad, irregular trunks: precisely the quality that makes tree trunk tables of this size possible. The wood is characterised by rich colour variations that range from light honey blond to deep walnut brown, often within the same slab. The grain is wavy and expressive, with natural markings reminiscent of landscapes or river patterns.
