Hallmarks of an industrial coffee table

Typical of these tables is rough finished wood with visible grain and knots, combined with black, anthracite or brushed steel bases. You will see U-shaped legs, X-shaped legs or four-leg frames, and some models stand on castors for a true factory look. There is often a lower shelf where you can keep magazines or decoration.

Mango or reclaimed teak

The choice of wood determines the character. Mango gives a sleeker, more even look, while reclaimed teak has more character and a lived-in appearance. Both woods combine beautifully with black steel. With or without castors

Many industrial models have cast iron castors on the base. Handy for moving the table for cleaning or for a party. The castors often have a brake, so the table does not roll away on its own. If you prefer a more static look, choose a model without castors that stands firmly on its legs.

Choosing the right size

Industrial coffee tables are usually 100 to 140 cm long, 60 to 80 cm wide and 38 to 45 cm high. Match the size to your sofa and to the walkways around it. If you want a uniform living and dining room, the coffee table combines nicely with an industrial dining table in the same mood, or with a rectangular coffee table in another style as an accent.

Caring for wood and steel

The steel bases are powder coated with a matt black or anthracite finish that prevents rust. If a small scratch appears in the coating, you can touch it up with a touch-up pen. Dust the wooden top regularly and wipe up moisture immediately; a wood such as mango or teak then stays beautiful under intensive daily use.
