Description
Soft light moves across the raised texture of this square artwork, letting the elongated heads of a group of cows seem to glow against the pastel background. The loose brushwork gives the painting a sense of movement: up close you see individual strokes, from a distance it all settles into a calm portrait. It makes a fresh counterpoint beside a more expressive animal piece, precisely because of these restrained tones.
Koeien in pastel is made from canvas on a wooden frame, with acrylic paint applied using a giclée technique and then finished by hand. This handmade finishing means small, natural variations in colour and form occur between pieces, giving it a more personal feel than a printed reproduction.
