What counts as wall decor

Wall decor comes in several types, each with its own effect. Mirrors reflect light and make a room look bigger, in round, oval, square and organic shapes and sizes. Paintings and photographic art come in many formats, from compact compositions to wall-filling works, and in styles such as abstract, figurative, black-and-white photography and nature prints. Wall objects in metal or wood bring a 3D dimension to the wall, and handmade wooden panels with a carved pattern give a smart look. Macramé and wall hangings in woven cotton or jute work beautifully in a wabi-sabi or boho setting.

Sizing advice: which size on which wall

The right size makes the difference between lost and balanced. Above a sofa, go for a piece roughly half to two thirds of the length of the sofa; a work that is too small quickly looks lost. Above a sideboard or console table, a width of roughly two thirds of the sideboard width works well. For a gallery wall with several prints, keep a small, even gap between the frames and group them in a geometric composition, for example a grid or an asymmetric trio.

Placement: height and composition

Hang wall decor at eye level, with the centre of the object roughly 150 to 160 cm above the floor. Above a piece of furniture, leave roughly 15 to 25 cm between the bottom edge and the furniture. For a gallery wall, start with the largest work as your anchor and build around it; lay the complete composition out on the floor before you start drilling. Ideally place a mirror opposite a window or light source for maximum light effect, or above a sideboard for visual depth.

Wall decor by style

The right choice reinforces your interior style. For an industrial look, choose metal wall objects, black-and-white photography or large mirrors with a steel frame, combined with rough wooden furniture. For hotel chic, handmade wooden panels and refined mirrors work well. For wabi-sabi or boho, macramé, nature prints and organic shapes are a good fit. Combine one large work as the focal point with a few smaller pieces for a dynamic, personal whole that ties in with your floors, walls and accessories.

On request they will also hang larger mirrors and artworks for you; for heavy items we recommend a certified fitter. From our showroom right by the border we also deliver directly to Gronau, Nordhorn and Munster among others, and the North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony region.
