Description

Picture this: wood that has already stood somewhere else. That has seen rain, sun, years. That carries the traces of its former life as a beam, a bridge or a floor: and now, carefully sawn and finished, becomes the centrepiece of your dining room. That is the Dining Table Donny Reclaimed Wood Danish Oval. The familiar Donny silhouette: the friendly Danish oval shape, the sleek black spider base: now realised in authentic reclaimed wood direct from Indonesia. Robust in character, sustainable in origin, and available in every size from 160 to 240 cm. Also discover our other Danish oval dining tables at Mokana.

Reclaimed wood: a tabletop with a past

The top of the Donny Reclaimed Wood is made from reused wood from Indonesia: also known as reclaimed wood or recycled wood. These are planks and beams sourced from old buildings, structures and floors that have served their purpose and are now given a new life as a solid tabletop. The result is wood that simply cannot be copied.

Look at the surface: you see colour differences between planks, spots where the wood has darkened with age, fine traces of working, and a wood grain that has gained character over the years. No two planks are alike, no two tables are identical. This is precisely the opposite of the uniformity of new wood: this is genuine, unrepeatable and seasoned. The rounded Danish oval edge gives the whole a soft, inviting appearance that contrasts with the rugged, raw wood structure of the top.

The spider base: industrial and timeless

Beneath the tabletop sits the recognisable black steel spider base: the X-shaped construction that gives the Donny series its characteristic industrial silhouette. The spider base is powder-coated black and offers maximum stability without visually weighing down the underside of the table. The legs stand well apart, giving everyone at the table plenty of legroom: even at the corners of the oval top.

The combination of the raw, earthy character of the reclaimed wood and the sleek black steel is what makes this table so timeless. It is not a table that will feel dated in two years. It is a table that only becomes more beautiful with the years.

Danish oval: the smartest table shape for the dining room

The Danish oval shape is popular for good reason. Unlike a rectangular table, a Danish oval table has no sharp corners, so everyone at the table sits on an equal footing and conversation flows more easily. The rounded ends make the table more accessible in a room: it is easier to walk around and the atmosphere at the table feels cosy and open. For families, for dinner parties, for working from home: the Danish oval shape suits almost every situation.

Which size suits your space?

A handy rule of thumb: allow at least 60 cm of table length per person and keep at least 90 cm of free space around the table so chairs can slide out comfortably. The 160x90 cm version is ideal for smaller dining rooms or for 4 regular and 2 occasional diners. The 200x100 cm is the most chosen size for a family of 6. The 240x100 cm version is suited to large dining rooms and families who regularly receive guests.

Interior styles that suit the Donny Reclaimed Wood

The combination of recycled wood and black steel makes this table particularly versatile. It fits excellently in an industrial interior with a concrete floor, metal accents and an open ceiling. But it also feels like coming home in a modern rural interior with wooden floorboards, linen curtains and earthenware accessories. The somewhat raw appearance of the reclaimed wood also fits perfectly in a wabi-sabi or natural interior in which imperfection and authenticity are valued. Combine the table with chairs in natural bouclé, rattan or dark leather for a complete atmosphere.

More from the Donny series at Mokana

The Donny is one of the most popular series at Mokana, available in several versions:

Care of a reclaimed wood tabletop

Reclaimed wood has a stable structure thanks to its age, but it does require some attention. Wipe the table after use with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately afterwards. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or abrasives. Treat the tabletop once a year with a natural furniture oil to keep the wood nourished and protected. The colour variations and small irregularities in the wood are not flaws: they are precisely what make this tabletop so special.

Question: What is reclaimed reused wood?
Answer: Reclaimed reused wood: also known as reclaimed wood or recycled wood: comes from old structures, buildings or floors that have been demolished or renovated. The wood is given a new life as a tabletop and carries the traces of its past: colour differences, patina and a character that new wood lacks.

Question: Is every Donny Reclaimed Wood table unique?
Answer: Yes. Because the tabletop consists of planks of different origins, the colour, grain and pattern vary from table to table. No two examples are exactly alike. You are therefore always buying an unrepeatable piece.

Question: Which size Donny suits my dining room?
Answer: Allow at least 60 cm of table length per person and keep at least 90 cm of free space around the table. The 160x90 cm version is suited to 4 to 6 people; the 240x100 cm to 8 to 10 people.

Question: How do I care for a reclaimed wood table?
Answer: Wipe the table after use with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately afterwards. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents. Treat the wood once a year with furniture oil to keep it nourished and protected. The colour variations are characteristic of reclaimed wood and are not flaws.

Question: What is the advantage of a Danish oval table shape?
Answer: A Danish oval table has no sharp corners, so everyone sits on an equal footing and conversation flows better. The rounded ends also make the table safer for children and easier to pass in the room.

Question: Can I view the Donny Reclaimed Wood table in the showroom?
Answer: Yes. In the Mokana showroom of over 3,000 m² at Hogelandsingel 49 in Enschede, various Donny variants are on display. You can experience the wood structure and colour in real life before you make a choice.

What customers say about Mokana
