Dining Table Borneo Ironwood 300 cm: Solid Wood on a Black Spider Leg

A dining table of 300 centimetres is already a statement in itself. But when the
tabletop is cut from solid Borneo ironwood and the base consists of a
black steel spider leg of industrial proportions, it becomes something
else: a piece that defines an entire space. This dining table weighs
approximately 150 kilograms, offers ample room for
10 to 12 people and is available directly from stock.

Borneo ironwood: the most robust furniture wood in existence

Borneo ironwood: also known as Ulin or
Belian: grows exclusively in the rainforests of Borneo and belongs
to the heaviest and hardest timbers in the world. The wood density is
800 to 1,100 kg/m³, making it heavier than teak
(±650 kg/m³), oak (±700 kg/m³) or mango wood (±650 kg/m³). The wood sinks
in water. By nature, Ulin is fully resistant to moisture, fungi,
insects and weather influences: without any treatment. It is no coincidence that
it is traditionally used for bridges, lock gates and foundation piles intended to
last for centuries.

As a furniture material, Borneo ironwood is exceptionally rare. The dark,
warm wood colour, the coarse grain, the irregular cracks and the black patina that
runs through the wood are not incidental details: they are the features that make this
wood irreplaceable. Every tabletop bears the traces of decades of
growth and, in many cases, a former life as structural timber. That
history is literally visible in the surface.

The tabletop: raw, solid and completely unique

The top of this dining table is not sawn from a single piece, but composed
of heavy solid planks of Borneo ironwood that lie tightly
side by side and together form a tabletop of impressive thickness and
density. The upper side shows the full richness of the wood: dark brown to
greyish brown in tone, with deep black veins, natural cracks that run across
the width of the top, and a rough yet even surface that invites you to
touch it.

The exact figuring, the position of cracks and veins, the colour nuances and the
wood structure differ from piece to piece. You are not buying a catalogue product: you are buying
this top, with its own identity. We recommend viewing the piece

The spider leg: industrial craftsmanship in black steel

The base is a solid spider leg in black lacquered steel
, a construction in which several steel beams fan out from a central point
and form a stable, symmetrical base. The spider leg is the
perfect counterpart to the heavy, raw wood: sleek, geometric and
modern, yet with enough mass to carry the size of the top.
The black steel contrasts beautifully with the warm brownish black wood colour and
gives the table its characteristic industrial-natural appearance.

The combination of Borneo ironwood and black steel makes this table at home
in a Japandi interior, a robust
modern country home, or an industrial
interior with a concrete floor and steel accents. But even in a
spacious, light interior with lime-paint walls and a natural floor, the
contrast between the heavy wood and the white space is exceptionally strong.
