What makes suar wood so special?

Suar wood (also known as Munggur or Saman) is a tropical hardwood from Indonesia and one of the most characterful timber species in the world. The wood is renowned for its exceptional grain: warm golden-brown tones alternate with dark vein patterns, deep growth rings, and organic cavities and cracks that the tree has developed over the course of its life. No two pieces of suar wood are the same: every table is therefore literally a unique work of art.

Suar wood is also solid, stable and less prone to warping than many other timber species, which makes it excellently suited to intensive daily use. The solid wooden legs are made from the same suar wood and therefore have the same warmth, the same irregular grain structure and the same robust weight as the top.

The wooden legs are the distinctive element of this table. Unlike the steel spider leg, a solid wooden base gives the table a wholly organic character. Suar wood is naturally a hard, dense timber that stands up excellently to daily use. For outdoor placement on a covered terrace, beneath a veranda or in the garden we recommend the optional outdoor protective lacquer. This transparent protective layer shields the wood against moisture, UV radiation and the effects of weather, without affecting the natural appearance of the suar wood. The table retains its warm, matt look and is protected for years.

Please note: this model is not suitable for fully unsheltered outdoor use (direct rainwater). On a covered terrace or veranda the table performs excellently, provided it is treated. Ask about the protective lacquer option when ordering.

Maintenance

Suar wood needs little intensive maintenance. Wipe the table after use with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately afterwards. Avoid prolonged contact with water or aggressive cleaning agents. For extra protection indoors, a treatment with Skylt lacquer or furniture oil is recommended: once a year is sufficient. For outdoors: use the outdoor protective lacquer and repeat the treatment each year at the start of the outdoor season.

Yes, absolutely. Each table is cut from a different tree trunk, which means the wood structure, vein patterns, growth rings, cavities and the exact outer edge differ from one piece to the next. The solid wooden legs too each have their own character. You are therefore always buying a wholly unique piece of nature.

In which sizes is the table available?

What is the difference between the wooden legs and the spider leg version?

The spider leg version has a slender steel leg in black or white: robust, light and industrial. The solid wooden legs version is made entirely of suar wood: sturdier, warmer and ideal for an organic Ibiza, natural or Bohemian feel. Both models have exactly the same top and the same dimensions.

How do I care for the table?
